The Saint Bernard has a very broad back, which is completely level up to the loins, where it slopes down slightly towards the croup. The St.Bernard withers are pronounced. Its long and heavy tail is broad and powerful. It is usually carried pendulous, but may curl back a bit at the tip. The well-arched chest reaches own to the elbows. There is a slight tuck-up. St.Bernards get along fine with children and other dogs. Household pets normally present no problems. Peers are accepted but a Saint Bernard will not be bullied. Their attitude towards strangers with pure intentions ranges from indifferent to friendly.

The Saint Bernard needs quite a bit of grooming, its coat should be brushed and combed at least twice a week. During the Molt a daily brush, particularly for the long-haired dogs, is quite essential. Keep the ears clean and check drooping eyelids regularly. If necessary you can apply special cleaning drops to their eyes. Keep the claws short.

A Saint Bernard is reasonably obedient dog and can learn command quite quickly if it is treated in a consistent and clear manner. The dog is fairly sensitive to your tone of voice; a harsh training is inappropriate. They are not suited to lengthy training sessions, so only give commands when necessary. Teach a St.Bernard at an early age ( St.bernard pupy ) that it should not pull on the leash, because you will unable to change the dog when it is grown up , as it will be too big and too strong. In common with all other mastiffs it also applies to St.Bernards dogs that their training needs consider able understanding. Take care that they are not over extended physically during their growing stage.

Saint Bernard Exercise
These type dogs have an average need for exercise. A walk around the block three times a day with regular long walks when they can run free, off leash, are all they need.
